Speaker:

She's a doctor. Hi, I'm Dr. Dovec and she's a dietitian.

Speaker:

Hey, I'm Hannah Schuyler, and together we are the weight loss

Speaker:

collab. And today we have a very

Speaker:

special guest. Laura Grabo is here. She is the

Speaker:

bariatric therapist. She is an obesity medicine and

Speaker:

bariatric surgery therapist who's dedicated over

Speaker:

20 years of your life, your career, to

Speaker:

this work. Yes. It's so good to be here.

Speaker:

We're so happy that you are here and you're in Florida.

Speaker:

Yes. Lora lives in Michigan, so we brought her down for the day.

Speaker:

Whirlwind. Yeah, Just a whirlwind trip down to Orlando to

Speaker:

come hang out and do this and talk about some other things that we'll get

Speaker:

into in just a second here. Yes. So welcome. Feels

Speaker:

so good to be here. I wouldn't miss the opportunity. It feels lovely.

Speaker:

Excellent. So one of the main reasons you are here, we're going to

Speaker:

dive right into it, is we are planning our Body by

Speaker:

Mindset retreat. This has been something you've

Speaker:

thought about. I don't want to steal your thunder. You are the brainchild of this,

Speaker:

and Hannah and I are along for the ride, and we're loving what

Speaker:

you're coming up with. Like, tell everybody what this is and why

Speaker:

you want to do it. Yes. I have been

Speaker:

thinking about doing something like this for years. I'm absolutely

Speaker:

honored that Body by Bariatrics and your team, especially

Speaker:

you, Dr. Dovik, is hosting this for my first one ever,

Speaker:

obviously working in the field as long as I

Speaker:

have. I have been speakers. I've been a speaker at several

Speaker:

patient events. Obviously, I do your Project Reset program.

Speaker:

I facilitate other groups. I have my online course. But I always

Speaker:

wanted to do something deeper and something

Speaker:

longer because so much of my work, I feel like

Speaker:

I just scratch the surface when it comes to mindset. And I

Speaker:

wish I could spend more time with my patients, walking

Speaker:

alongside them and guiding them through more

Speaker:

clinical experiences than just teaching

Speaker:

and chatting a little bit. I mean, we go deep in our Project

Speaker:

Reset groups here at Body by Bariatrics, but. But

Speaker:

we just need more time to build community. That's the other piece. Right.

Speaker:

So I'm so passionate about community. As you know, I

Speaker:

say over and over again, community is treatment, community is

Speaker:

treatment. And there's nothing like bringing

Speaker:

patients together. And so I've been dreaming about the

Speaker:

opportunity to bring patients together to do

Speaker:

a educational event, but maybe even deeper than that, a

Speaker:

clinical event that focuses on mindset

Speaker:

skills. So hence Body By Mindset was born. Oh,

Speaker:

my gosh. Well, talk a little bit about what the event's going to be

Speaker:

like. Like, what's your vision for those who might want to do

Speaker:

this? Right. So, yeah,

Speaker:

the vision. How much time do we have? That's how passionate I

Speaker:

am. So feel free to, to jump in. I have so

Speaker:

much to share about it. When I think about

Speaker:

the vision, of course I'm most excited

Speaker:

that it's in person. Yes, we know that really great work can

Speaker:

happen through a screen and has been happening virtually, but

Speaker:

there's nothing like building community in person.

Speaker:

My vision for this event is that yes,

Speaker:

it's important to have fun social events among patients

Speaker:

and it's important to do the pictures and have fun.

Speaker:

But what I've really heard, and that's really my passion is I've listened to

Speaker:

patient voices, is they want more, they want

Speaker:

more. They're looking to go deeper with a credentialed

Speaker:

expert. And so my vision is I kind of put it all

Speaker:

together. Can I talk about the model a little bit? So, okay, so

Speaker:

spill it, spill it, spill it, spill it. So the very first

Speaker:

Body by Mindset retreat will be here in

Speaker:

Orlando, Florida. And yes, I will be in person September 12th and

Speaker:

September 13th. September 12th is going to

Speaker:

be that fun meet and greet, mingling,

Speaker:

getting to know each other, evening activities

Speaker:

happening on Friday here at the amazing Surgical

Speaker:

Institute. And then on Saturday we are going to have

Speaker:

an all day event at the beautiful Bay Hill Country Club

Speaker:

that is really going to be focusing on a,

Speaker:

a topic that I think we all experience with our patients every

Speaker:

day is we see their courage

Speaker:

to be vulnerable and grow.

Speaker:

But that can't happen with what I know as a therapist and people have

Speaker:

heard me talk about without breaking free from shame.

Speaker:

And we are hearing a lot in the

Speaker:

community, rightfully so. I'm happy that we

Speaker:

know that our patients have been affected by

Speaker:

shame, you know, weight stigma and weight bias, which leads to

Speaker:

an internalized sense of shame for years. For

Speaker:

years. And what I also know as a

Speaker:

therapist is there's a lot of unhealthy coping skills

Speaker:

to deal with that shame. Things like emotional eating,

Speaker:

isolation, skipping your intentional movement.

Speaker:

And I am finally excited to provide a healthy way, a

Speaker:

healthy way to break free from that shame. So on Saturday,

Speaker:

it's going to be some speakers from experts that, that we may know

Speaker:

around here. I don't want to give too much away. We're going to have a

Speaker:

patient share and then in the afternoon, it's

Speaker:

really going to be an intensive of

Speaker:

gosh, how did I say it to you, Betsy, when I was talking.

Speaker:

We see our patients lose external weight

Speaker:

with bariatric surgery. We see our patients lose external weight with

Speaker:

GLP1 medication. But in my

Speaker:

role, I see them continue to be weighed down by eternal

Speaker:

weight, internal weight of shame.

Speaker:

And still, yes, we see some confidence building in their self

Speaker:

worth and finding their voice. But

Speaker:

sadly, having the surgery or being on a

Speaker:

GLP1 medication doesn't help our

Speaker:

patient to realize that they are enough

Speaker:

right now. They are enough right

Speaker:

now. And I still find them looking for sources of

Speaker:

their validation, you know, to be validated from external sources

Speaker:

that people pleasing that show there. And

Speaker:

I can do everything myself and not letting people in. And what I know as

Speaker:

a clinician is that's all based in shame. So our

Speaker:

afternoon is going to be intensive with me. I'll be doing some stuff of course,

Speaker:

Saturday morning too, but the afternoon is really an

Speaker:

intensive with me to break learn what shame

Speaker:

is all about. What are our shame shields, how to break through

Speaker:

and then building our sense of self worth

Speaker:

with self compassion. I love it because like

Speaker:

I'm so excited for this. I think, you know, it's kind of just like this

Speaker:

brainchild of yours. Like you said, you've been thinking about it for a long time.

Speaker:

So I'm glad we can really bring it to fruition. And I know that with

Speaker:

you, one of the best things that you do is you always make sure that

Speaker:

people walk away with like actual actionable steps. Because

Speaker:

sometimes so much too. We can talk about this all day long and people can

Speaker:

listen to podcasts or they can read books or they can do whatever and it's

Speaker:

like. But if at the end of it there's no like, and then this is

Speaker:

what you do, then it's like that's all for naught. So I know

Speaker:

that that's something that's gonna be like a take. There's gonna be takeaways for people

Speaker:

at this. Hannah, you nailed it on the head. The whole retreat is

Speaker:

a takeaway. So what I know. And of course you know, I wanna give credit

Speaker:

where credit is due. The leading researcher and expert on shame is the

Speaker:

amazing Bernie Brown. And and I will be utilizing some of her

Speaker:

work. But what we know about Shane is that one, we all have it,

Speaker:

right? So not just our patients, all three of us right here, experience shame.

Speaker:

Absolutely. We all have it. We all don't want to talk about

Speaker:

it. And the more we don't talk about it, the more it grows. So shame

Speaker:

grows when it's just kept in secrecy, in silence.

Speaker:

So what is the antidote of shame? Bringing it out in the light,

Speaker:

realizing you're not alone, thinking, being able to be with other

Speaker:

patients in an experience that says, me too,

Speaker:

me too. I mean, I see it in Project Reset virtually, but now that

Speaker:

we're going to be in person in an event that we will

Speaker:

slowly be building up trust, I do. If someone's like freaking out right now and

Speaker:

is like, oh, my gosh, I don't have. No one's going to be required to

Speaker:

share. There's going to be a lot of activities for quiet journaling and

Speaker:

reflecting small group

Speaker:

experiences. Yeah,

Speaker:

it's at your own comfort level, but that's the first takeaway, Right?

Speaker:

Like shame. Shame. Shame can't survive when it's dosed by

Speaker:

empathy. And that's what's going to happen on this retreat.

Speaker:

And Absolutely. Action steps. I mentioned things

Speaker:

like the journaling,

Speaker:

you know, an exercise on shame shields. Another

Speaker:

thing I'm thinking about, I don't want to give too much away. I won't describe

Speaker:

them in empathy circle, some type of

Speaker:

ending to really mark the milestone of the great

Speaker:

work that they're going to do. I think

Speaker:

I'll probably call it letting go and letting in or

Speaker:

something like that. And just some powerful experiences around that. As a group of

Speaker:

patients, I love all of it. I've seen the agenda and I'm

Speaker:

watching it come to life. And, you know, even the patient's story of how

Speaker:

you're using this shame and changing it to strength.

Speaker:

And again, it's a testament to this particular

Speaker:

patient has been coming every week and working so hard with you during

Speaker:

the Project Reset sessions that are all, you know, really focused on

Speaker:

different topics and making sure that those come

Speaker:

prepared, thinking about it, how it pertains to them

Speaker:

so that they can leave and it's really productive and that inefficient in that

Speaker:

small period of time. But, you know, some people are huge.

Speaker:

Not just, you know, lovers of working on their own mindset,

Speaker:

but they've been huge followers of yours and they've

Speaker:

been coming to these project resets. So they might be thinking, like, is this like

Speaker:

more of the same things I've already been doing? I know you said that, you

Speaker:

know, this is fresh. There's going to be some things you've never really done or

Speaker:

shared before, like a. How do you even keep your content? Like,

Speaker:

you're so good with words. I'm like, always, like, just

Speaker:

enamored by, like, what you're saying. Just like on my own personal

Speaker:

development journey myself. But, like, how are you going to keep it

Speaker:

fresh for all, for all the people that already know and love you?

Speaker:

Yeah. So, well, thank you. And I think it's important to know that everyone

Speaker:

is invited to this retreat. You don't just have to be a member of Project

Speaker:

Reset. If you are listening to this podcast, watching this podcast, you are

Speaker:

invited. If you're a medical, surgical, you know, pre medical,

Speaker:

pre surgical, you are here. Anyone? I mean, like we said, we

Speaker:

all have shame and we're all working on our relationship with food.

Speaker:

How do I make it different? Yes, it's absolutely different than my Project

Speaker:

Reset classes. It's different than my online course.

Speaker:

The reason being we have one theme throughout

Speaker:

and I get to spend more time on it, and I've never had a

Speaker:

place to do that. Right. So even if you think of past speaking

Speaker:

events, I only have an hour. Right. So I have been

Speaker:

able to sit and design an entire package, which is

Speaker:

why I'm so thankful to you and your team to come and roll

Speaker:

it out. And, gosh, where

Speaker:

do I get my content? Patient stories. I think

Speaker:

we're always learning. Like, I hope I never get to the point where

Speaker:

I'm like, oh, yep, I know everything, because there's

Speaker:

always something I can learn. And because I do

Speaker:

so many groups a week and individual sessions a week, I continue

Speaker:

to hear their pain and it gets in the way of them having

Speaker:

success on their weight loss journey. It

Speaker:

absolutely gets in the way. Yeah.

Speaker:

So. But again, again, like, everything you do, it's just like, sit in

Speaker:

it, be in it for a minute. Yeah,

Speaker:

no, I think it's going to be amazing. And so one other thing that's been

Speaker:

really important for us is this, to be accessible for everyone. And

Speaker:

so talk a little bit about. How we're trying to make it accessible for everyone.

Speaker:

Well, the price point. Right.

Speaker:

Everyone's like, okay, okay, okay, good. I'm ready. Ready. I

Speaker:

think our listeners hear the word retreat and they're thinking, oh, I

Speaker:

won't be afford. Be able to afford to go that. Go to that. For

Speaker:

Friday night, all day Saturday, including

Speaker:

meals, our price is $99.

Speaker:

Yeah. And, you know, we still know that that's still not accessible.

Speaker:

And we'll, you know, for some people, but we were hoping that that's a

Speaker:

number that. Well, I think it's going to make. It okay for some. For a

Speaker:

lot of people. Yeah, let us know. I know,

Speaker:

let me know. I'm the worst. I'm like, sure.

Speaker:

Because I do, you know, when we. We.

Speaker:

The first time I've seen you, people have heard me tell the stories many times.

Speaker:

You were presenting. I didn't really know you at all.

Speaker:

I was. I saw you present to a group, and there wasn't a dry

Speaker:

eye in the place. People were crying. They were, like, leaning in. I've

Speaker:

never seen an audience in person with.

Speaker:

There was just, like. There was just a buzz in the air. It was like

Speaker:

people were leaning in, and I was like, who is this? So I, like,

Speaker:

beelined it up for you. We chatted at that retreat, and

Speaker:

I was like, we gotta do something. Taking me a couple of years, but

Speaker:

here we are. We finally have the physical space. And,

Speaker:

I mean, this is just. I just. Your potential and what's

Speaker:

inside your head and the creative genius that you are. This is

Speaker:

going to be. It's going to be amazing, and

Speaker:

I can't wait to be a recipient of it. I'm going to be there every

Speaker:

moment. And like you said on Friday, like, we're going to ease in. We're not,

Speaker:

like, jumping right in for the tears, you know, we're like, we're easing in. You're

Speaker:

like. You say we're building trust. We're getting to know each other.

Speaker:

We want people to leave. I always love to say strangers leave us friends

Speaker:

and. And how. How we can do that, you know? So Friday

Speaker:

night is going to be the fun, you know, swag

Speaker:

bags. You get your name card. We're gonna do some icebreakers,

Speaker:

led by the one and only Hannah Skyler. Hannah

Speaker:

actually used to do this for camps back in the

Speaker:

day. Camp counselor, y'. All. I just learned that today. I love it. Yeah.

Speaker:

So I will definitely pull some of those Camp Hannah skills out. So

Speaker:

if I, like, like, do something make you all get quiet, don't be surprised.

Speaker:

You'll be amazed. Okay. Get the room quiet. Wow.

Speaker:

I can't wait to see what she does. How much practice? It's been longer than

Speaker:

I care to admit. I love a good icebreaker. I love a good

Speaker:

icebreaker. That's so funny, because I feel like so many people hear that word, and,

Speaker:

like, they're like, cheesy. It's cheesy. And you know what? Maybe

Speaker:

it is. But it's gonna be fun. And, like, they do get you out

Speaker:

of that. That uncomfortable bubble because everybody feels

Speaker:

a little awkward, and then, you know, you start laughing or figure out whatever it

Speaker:

is. So we'll make sure that they're fun. It might be cheesy, but it'll be

Speaker:

fun. Oh, yeah. And we'll have food, drinks, the whole thing. And when you talk

Speaker:

about awkward, people want to know the next question. What do I wear? Yes,

Speaker:

that's a great one. So we were talking about this earlier and we're saying just

Speaker:

be, you know, casual, comfortable, you know, wear

Speaker:

whatever you feel good in. You know, we're not going to be doing a lot

Speaker:

of like movement or anything crazy like that. Maybe some stretching or something in the

Speaker:

morning, but, you know, don't, don't feel like you need to be. I mean, if

Speaker:

you feel comfortable in a ball gown, like show up in that. But I

Speaker:

might, I don't, I don't. So I'll probably be in jeans and

Speaker:

body by bariatrics. T shirt. I think I will too. Yeah. Jeans. And

Speaker:

you'll get a short comfortable. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker:

I just want people. Yeah. September. So it, it's, it might be hot

Speaker:

still. So maybe it was shorts and T shirts, sundress.

Speaker:

Yeah, whatever you want. And I think that's,

Speaker:

that's been part of the con, the concerns I've heard too, listening to patient

Speaker:

voices like, yes, this is a very exciting event and we

Speaker:

want as many people as we can to get there, but we don't want any

Speaker:

hindrances of, okay, well, what do I wear? And

Speaker:

am I gonna meet anybody? Am I gonna know anybody? Like,

Speaker:

we're gonna take care of all that. We want you to just come

Speaker:

and share your story if you're comfortable, receive some

Speaker:

education, receive a lot of support,

Speaker:

and of course, end with the treatment of community.

Speaker:

Yeah. And the most amazing thing to me about the bariatric community

Speaker:

is it is such a welcoming space. And you know, I don't know,

Speaker:

you probably obviously know more about it, but like, I don't know if that's because

Speaker:

there has been so much external shame on people or so much

Speaker:

pressure on them to like not fit in that now they feel it's like, it

Speaker:

gives you a place to fit in. But yeah, to me it's just so,

Speaker:

like. So don't be nervous if you're coming by yourself or. Right. You know,

Speaker:

there will be someone there to welcome you who has gone through

Speaker:

a similar journey to yours. Yeah,

Speaker:

I hear stories every day in my office. People who live in larger

Speaker:

size bodies, they're othered,

Speaker:

like I said, they experience weight stigma, weight bias.

Speaker:

And I think you're exactly right, Hannah. That is why

Speaker:

I think our patients affected by the disease of obesity excel

Speaker:

at welcoming others in and accepting them. And I also

Speaker:

think it's a general. I'm just, with

Speaker:

my People like, you just know. Right.

Speaker:

I'll often hear from patients, whether it's in a zoom group

Speaker:

virtually or, you know, when I used to do groups in person, which, by the

Speaker:

way, I'm so excited to be back in person. That's another thing I'm really excited

Speaker:

about, too, is they say

Speaker:

when I'm with other patients, it's almost like I can let my guard down.

Speaker:

I come in and it's this.

Speaker:

They get it. Yeah, they get it.

Speaker:

And a lot of freedom, a lot of healing,

Speaker:

a lot of rewriting the story

Speaker:

can happen when you have that feeling. Absolutely.

Speaker:

And I think for me, too, like, part of the takeaway is, like, hopefully people

Speaker:

leaving with having that feeling in other spaces.

Speaker:

Like, you don't necessarily. I mean, obviously we want you to be part of the

Speaker:

community. We want you to build that. But, like, if you can take that feeling

Speaker:

with you and feel more comfortable in different areas of your life, like,

Speaker:

that would be amazing. Yes, yes, yes, yes. So, yeah.

Speaker:

And even, you know, when you talk about people getting it, even things

Speaker:

as simple as, like, the meals, like, what we order, like, we're

Speaker:

cognizant of your diet. I'm going to check the

Speaker:

diet. I'm going to check the menu. There might be deviled eggs. Like, you

Speaker:

never know. Right. Well, it was interesting because I had a patient in an

Speaker:

earlier group today, asked me, she's like, oh, I think I'll be like, two

Speaker:

weeks post op. You know, like, will there be softs? I'm like,

Speaker:

you're working with a bariatric dietitian. Like, don't let me know.

Speaker:

I'll make sure, you know, this is, you know, again,

Speaker:

you understand this is going to be what our patients

Speaker:

need to be. And the plates will be small. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker:

We'll have a little something for everybody. We will take that into consideration. And

Speaker:

also, even when you're eating the food, you don't have to worry about

Speaker:

anybody. Like, you're not gonna finish that. Why are you eating that way? Like, no

Speaker:

one would even question it. It's just natural. You're just so in your

Speaker:

element. Like, you're saying. Yep. And if you pull out a calcium chew in the

Speaker:

middle of a session, no problem. We'll just set timers for everybody. Every two hours,

Speaker:

we'll take a vitamin break. I was loving my. I do, too. Actually. We

Speaker:

should be like, it's time, everybody. Instead of coffee breaks, I mean, hopefully,

Speaker:

in addition to coffee breaks, we can have vitamin breaks. You can help

Speaker:

me write that part of the injection. All right. Perfect. Yes. We'll make sure there's

Speaker:

all the vitamin breaks. Vitamin breaks. And wow. We'll get like

Speaker:

propel packets for everybody. Stay hydrated. We'll just pull them out of your

Speaker:

desk drawer, actually. Yes. Kind of a complete attitude to it. So I'll have them

Speaker:

there for myself so I can just flavor up that ice water. Perfect. Or

Speaker:

room temp water. I get that too. Some people don't like ice afterwards. Yeah.

Speaker:

I think another thing that we haven't mentioned yet that patients

Speaker:

are looking forward to. I know we're. The three of us are looking forward to

Speaker:

too, and other staff is they just want to hang out with us and that's

Speaker:

that Friday night vibe as well. Like, yes, we have our professional

Speaker:

role in your lives, but we're real people and we're human

Speaker:

and we want. I think that's something Body by Bariatrics excels

Speaker:

at is patient care connection at just the connection level.

Speaker:

And that's what Friday night's going to be all about. And I think we've talked

Speaker:

a little bit about Saturday night. An optional activity for us all to hang out.

Speaker:

Yeah. Something that might be. Oh, yeah, for sure. Yeah. And

Speaker:

we, we are very much so human. And I mean a

Speaker:

lot of you out there who are going to come with the patient that we

Speaker:

have as a speaker, we become friends. You

Speaker:

know, it is, it is so interesting how I benefit like as well.

Speaker:

It's not just patient to patient. It's like the relationships that I've built

Speaker:

and over the years. For example, I had a

Speaker:

patient from over 10 years ago, Jeff,

Speaker:

he's very open about his story. And Jeff's daughter

Speaker:

wants to go to medical school and she thinks she wants to be a surgeon.

Speaker:

And so this, I mean, this is from Baltimore. She goes to the University of

Speaker:

Maryland. And he said, do you mind if she comes down and shadows you? So

Speaker:

she's been shadowing me for the last two weeks and

Speaker:

ah, she wrote me this card and it was just so awesome.

Speaker:

She was like, you know, it was just like, I don't know, just seeing,

Speaker:

I guess my life through her eyes and just how.

Speaker:

Oh, I guess I helped to potentially like influence or help

Speaker:

somebody like with their life's path. And that's cool. And I

Speaker:

mean, that's what we do all the time, you know, with our patients. But I

Speaker:

just, I love, I love these real connections that, that we've

Speaker:

made. I really do. Yeah. Yeah. And that is again, that's really what I think

Speaker:

is going to be. Of course the teachings are going to be a big takeaway.

Speaker:

But I think that community sense is also going to be something. And then,

Speaker:

you know, when you do kind of break down in those. Those walls and you

Speaker:

come together in this type of space, you do get that, like, deeper connection. It's

Speaker:

not just, oh, we hung out at that, you know, event and we took

Speaker:

a picture together or something. It's like, oh, no, we. We cried together.

Speaker:

We're good, you know. Yeah. We shared our stories. Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah. And so, yeah, I think that's definitely like, just that

Speaker:

deeper connection that then you can take on with you and

Speaker:

continue this work. And. And that's something else. I mean, Laura, like, for. For

Speaker:

this, like, what I think. Are we gonna. Are we already just gonna plan the

Speaker:

next one before we've even done this one? Well, I hope so, because I'm mentally

Speaker:

doing it, so. You're doing it. Yeah. This is gonna be our thing. Yeah. This

Speaker:

is the prototype of many. Yeah. I mean, which is why I'm so

Speaker:

excited to do my first one with Holly by Barry. I. Yeah, right. I'm so

Speaker:

excited because you've promoted my vision from day one and

Speaker:

believe in what I do and was open to bringing the mindset

Speaker:

piece into your practice, and I'm so thankful

Speaker:

for that. And, you know, on a personal note,

Speaker:

I'm kind of jealous of you guys because you have met so many of our

Speaker:

patients in person, and I haven't, so I'm so

Speaker:

excited to actually hug them in person. If

Speaker:

you're a hugger. If you're not a hugger, I'll respect your space. And it's not

Speaker:

just our body by bariatric patients. So much of my work is online.

Speaker:

I think that's important. We should mention. We mentioned we do have a hotel.

Speaker:

Yes. Right next door. And. And, you know, stay tuned for,

Speaker:

you know, discounted rates on that. I would

Speaker:

love to see my patients fly in for this. This has been requested.

Speaker:

And I mean, if you can make it happen, make it happen. Stay

Speaker:

an extra day. Go to the parks. Right. Go to the parks. And

Speaker:

as a therapist, you would never get this level of education for the price point

Speaker:

we're offering it at. Yeah. And that's like, such

Speaker:

a dream. That's like, I love it because we can do it. We have the

Speaker:

space, and we have the vision, and, you know,

Speaker:

make it happen. Just make it happen. Yeah. Yeah. We're not trying to make money

Speaker:

off of it. We're just. Is a true passion project.

Speaker:

And that's. And that's what it is. And I think you know,

Speaker:

just this idea of the topic of shame and

Speaker:

breaking free from it and how you're going to kind of peel back

Speaker:

these layers and to get to kind of that core.

Speaker:

You know, I think it. I think it is really brilliant. I think it is

Speaker:

the topic. I think on a personal level, like, like you said, we

Speaker:

all feel it. And I think that just the learnings from it are just

Speaker:

going to be awesome. It's going to be awesome. Yeah.

Speaker:

So, yeah, just tell us a little bit more about just, I don't know,

Speaker:

I think just like that topic or just things or just how you feel.

Speaker:

Like this is something that, like our closing remarks

Speaker:

here that they have to do. Like, people, you don't want to miss out on

Speaker:

this. Like, why? Like, why? One more time, Because I know

Speaker:

they are hungering to dive deep. I know they are

Speaker:

hungering to dive deep. Our patients know, as the experts on their

Speaker:

life, that, yes, surgery was a wonderful tool.

Speaker:

Yes, GLP1 medication is a wonderful tool to treat their disease

Speaker:

of obesity. But they know there's something missing

Speaker:

and they're getting it. To use a food analogy, they're getting

Speaker:

appetizers, they're getting small meals of it in

Speaker:

our classes and in my talks. But now it's time

Speaker:

for the full feast. And I

Speaker:

know the hunger is out there and I'm ready to help fill it in a

Speaker:

healthy way. I love it.

Speaker:

I do, too. Well, so when is it again? Yes. So to go over all

Speaker:

the details, we'll just finish that up and we'll make sure this is all

Speaker:

in the show notes and everything as well. And we'll. You'll see us everywhere. Don't

Speaker:

worry. So it will be on Friday, September 12,

Speaker:

and Saturday, September 13, in Orlando, Florida.

Speaker:

So Friday night we will be at the Surgical Institute of Central Florida,

Speaker:

and then on Saturday, we will be at the Bay Hill Country Club.

Speaker:

And so we'll obviously make sure you have all of that information. The

Speaker:

cost is $99. We will have information coming

Speaker:

about discounted hotel rates. There's one directly next door to the Surgical

Speaker:

Institute of Central Florida. And then, you know, we'll make sure that there's

Speaker:

connection to. To people beforehand if they're interested, and, you know,

Speaker:

reaching out and saying, hey, I just want to make sure that, you know, like

Speaker:

I said, everyone is very welcoming, but if you want to make sure you can

Speaker:

chat with somebody beforehand or anything like that, we'll make sure that

Speaker:

the community is there kind of leading up to it,

Speaker:

and so. You feel supported coming in and all are Invited.

Speaker:

We've stressed that. But you don't have to just be a body by bariatrics patient

Speaker:

or a patient of mine from when I was in Balt. Like none of it.

Speaker:

We, like you said, you don't even have to be a patient of

Speaker:

anything. You can just want to learn about this

Speaker:

topic. Come. We want people there like

Speaker:

pre op. Post op, non surgical patients,

Speaker:

whomever, all are welcome. I mean, don't we

Speaker:

all want to break free from shame and learn to be kinder to ourselves

Speaker:

and show up to ourselves? Show up to ourselves with self

Speaker:

compassion. I think we're all experts at showing up to others with

Speaker:

self compassion. But now we're entitled to show up to ourselves with that

Speaker:

same self compassion. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. I'm just kidding. I do want to

Speaker:

learn that. I know she's having a deep moment here. Sorry.

Speaker:

She's like, I have a big thought here about this self compassion

Speaker:

and ever being. Dr. Dovid, can I ask you one more question? Yes.

Speaker:

I'm just curious, as the surgeon,

Speaker:

as someone who prescribes GLP1 medication, why

Speaker:

do you think something like this is important? Like, you know, there's so

Speaker:

many out there who's like, just write me the prescription, just give me the surgery.

Speaker:

You know, Hannah and I were talking about that because we've been kind of doing

Speaker:

the behind the scenes, like hype and real and videos, and we're just

Speaker:

trying to, you know, put the content together to advertise this. And

Speaker:

Hannah and I were like, what is our role in this exactly? Like,

Speaker:

what are we gonna do? And we were both just saying, like,

Speaker:

well, we are here to make sure that, yeah, she does all

Speaker:

things nutrition and like, food. We're always talking about food. Give me a

Speaker:

recipe, give me a meal plan. You know, what about my macros? Like,

Speaker:

yeah. And obviously that stuff is extraordinarily important.

Speaker:

Mine were, you know, in the operating room, I'm doing the procedure. Making

Speaker:

your stomach smaller. Like all the technical aspects, I think of all

Speaker:

of it, mine is like the most minor role. Truly. I really know

Speaker:

that. And so, and like you said, like, this has always been the

Speaker:

missing piece. And why am I still saying it's the missing piece?

Speaker:

And there's not. There's just not that many people. I feel like

Speaker:

there's not enough resources and people,

Speaker:

again, with your very specific expertise in this

Speaker:

part of kind of therapy and shame and how it

Speaker:

relates to food and emotions and, you know,

Speaker:

all that, I think that there's just a lack of resources for

Speaker:

whatever reason. And you're only one person, so

Speaker:

you can only do so many one on one visits and so many group sessions.

Speaker:

So what is again the most efficient way to

Speaker:

really allow the largest group of people to

Speaker:

benefit from all that you've done in over two decades

Speaker:

in one place? And it's like a no brainer. And

Speaker:

to put something like this on, especially for someone like you, that's such a

Speaker:

key opinion leader in our space and have never done it before.

Speaker:

There's really never been a true retreat dedicated

Speaker:

to just mindset and head work and to even have a small role

Speaker:

in it, do a little speaking in it, be in the, in the

Speaker:

group as a kind of a recipient of your learnings and

Speaker:

teachings and all of that. I mean, I'm thrilled,

Speaker:

I'm thrilled to be there and sort of be with Hannah

Speaker:

and other members of our team as sort of the supporting

Speaker:

actors to your main show here. And

Speaker:

it's going to be cool. It's going to be awesome. I'm so

Speaker:

excited. So excited. I know, like we said,

Speaker:

we've seen the agenda. We know what you're doing. We know what we're of course

Speaker:

going to be a lot of fun. And the giveaways that we, we

Speaker:

have. So there'll be surprises, there's gonna be all kinds of good

Speaker:

stuff. So like don't have FOMO 99.

Speaker:

You got this. Come on. Totally got it. Invite a friend.

Speaker:

Yeah. Am I shaming people into coming now? Am I kind of.

Speaker:

She's like, you better feel the shame before you come. Yeah, bring that shame. Really?

Speaker:

Make sure. Breaking it out. Breaking it out. We're breaking it out. No,

Speaker:

you're absolutely, you're not shaming, actually, you're encouraging. Encouraging. I

Speaker:

encouraging you. That's my project reset on the motivation piece.

Speaker:

Yes, you are. Motivating you. Because

Speaker:

people aren't motivated by shame. No. But sadly, our

Speaker:

patients have been doing it to themselves for a long time and their healthcare teams

Speaker:

have been doing well. Everyone has been doing it. So it's time to, to come

Speaker:

together and break free from that. Love it. Yes. All right, well,
